Join us for an extraordinary photography workshop in the wilds of Sabah, Borneo, where every frame tells a story. Wander through serene riverbanks, dense rainforests, and vibrant mangroves, all while refining your photographic skills under expert guidance. Whether you are an emerging photographer or an experienced enthusiast, this workshop promises unforgettable encounters, spectacular compositions, and images that will stay with you forever.
Upon arrival at Kota Kinabalu Airport, you’ll be picked up and transferred to the hotel for check-in and a short rest after your journey. In the evening, we’ll head to the picturesque Tanjung Aru Beach for a photo session to capture the stunning seaside sunset. The day concludes with dinner in the town area at your own expense, before returning to the hotel to rest for the next day’s adventure.
The day begins with an early sunrise shoot at the iconic Kota Kinabalu Floating Mosque, where the calm waters and morning light offer stunning reflections. After returning to the hotel for breakfast, we’ll head out to the KK Wetland Centre to explore and photograph local wildlife and the serene mangrove landscape. In the evening, we’ll capture the sunset at a beautiful beach, followed by dinner together. To wrap up the day, we’ll enjoy a nightscape photography session near the hotel, perfect for experimenting with long exposures and city lights.
After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll set off for Kinabalu Park, where you can enjoy the refreshing mountain air and explore the botanical garden—an excellent spot for wildlife and nature photography. Along the way, we’ll stop for a local lunch (at own expense) before continuing to the picturesque Desa Dairy Farm, known for its lush green pastures and scenic highland views. After capturing the beauty of this tranquil landscape, we’ll head back to Kota Kinabalu for dinner and an overnight stay at the hotel.
After breakfast, we’ll check out from the hotel and head to Kota Kinabalu Airport for a morning flight to Sandakan. Upon arrival, we’ll be transferred to Bilit Jetty, where a short boat ride will take us to our riverside resort. After checking in, we’ll have afternoon tea at 3:30 PM, followed by a two-hour river cruise at 4:00 PM, offering wonderful opportunities to photograph proboscis monkeys, hornbills, and other wildlife along the Kinabatangan River. In the evening, enjoy dinner at the lodge, then join a one-hour night walk, perfect for macro and night photography. We’ll stay overnight at Bilit Adventure Lodge surrounded by the sounds of the rainforest.
This marks the end of Part 1 of our Sabah Photography Workshop. Participants will be transferred to Kota Kinabalu Airport after breakfast.

Start the day with an early morning river cruise at 6:00 AM, a perfect time to capture the soft light and spot wildlife stirring along the Kinabatangan River. Return to the lodge for breakfast, followed by a late-morning jungle trek to photograph the rich flora and fauna of the rainforest. After freshening up, enjoy a delicious lunch at 12:30 PM, then spend some free time photographing around the lodge or simply relaxing by the river. In the afternoon, gather for tea at 3:30 PM, before setting off on another two-hour river cruise at 4:00 PM to capture different light and animal activity. Dinner will be served at the lodge, and we’ll spend our second night at Bilit Adventure Lodge, immersed in the tranquility of the jungle.
Begin the day with a morning photography session at the lodge, capturing the serene riverside scenery. After breakfast, we’ll check out and depart for Sandakan at 8:30 AM. Along the way, we’ll stop at the Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary to catch the 11:30 AM feeding session, an excellent opportunity for wildlife photography. Next, we’ll enjoy lunch at Banana Café, Sepilok Jungle Resort, before checking in at Sepilok Jungle Resort. The afternoon offers time to explore and photograph the resort’s surroundings, capturing its lush rainforest setting. At 4:30 PM, we’ll embark on a fireflies excursion to Pangkalan Village, with a stop at Pulau Pamaguan for a sunset photo session. Enjoy local dinner included, then return to Sepilok Jungle Resort for an overnight stay.
The day begins with an early start at 5:30 AM as we depart for the Rainforest Discovery Centre, an ideal location for capturing the soft morning light and the beauty of the forest. After returning to the resort for breakfast and check-out, we’ll visit the Sepilok Orangutan Centre and the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, offering fantastic opportunities for wildlife photography. A local lunch will follow (at own expense) before we transfer and check in at Sabah Hotel, Sandakan. In the evening, we’ll head out for dinner at Sim-Sim Water Village’s seafood restaurant (own expense), and then return to the hotel for an overnight stay.
After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll embark on a morning Sandakan city tour, perfect for street and cultural photography. Highlights include Sandakan Memorial Park, the hilltop Puu Jih Shih Temple with its stunning views, St. Michael’s Church, the bustling Central Market, and the historic Agnes Keith House. We’ll stop for lunch en-route (at own expense) before transferring to Sandakan Airport for your onward journey.
